Hello, chicken people!
I am in a sad place. Thursday night a raccoon snatched two of my chickens sometime between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. I now have one lonely chicken left, and both of us are pretty depressed. LuAnn is jumpy and nervous and droopy.
She also seems very lonely - she's never been separated from other chickens before and she really needs a flock. I don't feel like I can take in other chickens right now, because I need to do some structural work and raccoon-deterrent in the chicken run.
I'm looking for someone who might be able to take in a foster chicken. I can provide food for her, and I can take her back home in late winter/early spring when I've got my chicken house in order and feel like I can safely bring home more friends for her.
LuAnn is almost 6, an Australorp, and pretty mellow. She's always been in the middle/lower-middle of the pecking order. She still lays regularly during most of the year, but hasn't been laying since she started molting about a month ago.
Please let me know if you might consider fostering LuAnn.
