The breeder might just have some smooth Sebastopols and some can be quite smooth
but they can still produce curly offspring when bred to curly (about 50%).
See my website's saddleback & buff pages.
You will see some of the smooth Sebastopols I have in my breeding program.
Some of my best curlies are have one smooth parent.
On the other hand you could of purchased some Americans or mutts of questionable breed.
See what the breeder has to say.

This is Alice- one of the geese in question. I know she's at least 3 months. Has not show the slightest hint of curly. They were a bit deficient when I got them though- grey bills and feet, but they are much better now.

ETA- and the one to the right of Alice- has had me guessing from day one. It's getting white flecks in the lavender around the face.

They both look like they are Sebastopol crosses to me which in essence is what all colored Sebastopol are....mutts.
See how they have some lose feathering on their backs and upper coverts?
That's a typical area where smoothies show some longer feathering.
They could get some more longer feathers in this same area after their yearling (2012) molt but they aren't going to go from this to curly all over.
They both look like very nice sturdy birds with good type so they would be fine to breed.
Just breed them to curly.

This gooses father is very smooth....

They are just so stunning! I hope these 2 smoothe ones are gilrs because I have a full curly that I'm pretty sure is a male. I have some american blues and toulouse as well- can't wait to see what we get next year

This is one of my smoothe girls- Claire. I think she's a sebbie x embden, as her legs are much longer than the others.

Hi,
I have only one gosling that hatched this year as well (out of 16 eggs!). Anyway he/she is definitely turning out splash as the feathers come in, but I am stumped on sex. Any guesses? I am also hoping the feathers start to curl more, but he/she is only 6 weeks old.
