i'm thinking my older girl is laying. but im wondering if i should put a wall up or a box for the other girl to lay in? all i got is a extra tall toper box for them to go in at night so won't be enough space for them to lay eggs in without butting heads?

At night, do Sebastopol geese need a ground level place to sleep, or raised?

mine sleep on the ground in a partially open sided building that has wire on the ground (buried) and on the pallets that make up the sides of their building, in good old New England winter, and they not only do fine, they set fine in it too. I currently have a girl on eggs out there and they are developing fine

I litterally can take 3-400 at a time when I sit down outside to take them

We have a cabinet just for goose eggs, 5 drawers 50 eggs per drawer. Another just for muscovy duck eggs, One just for hatching and one we run domestic duck and chicken eggs in. I run them all "dry" during incubation only the hatcher is ever increased for humidity. Goose eggs arent moved to the hatcher until they have internally pipped, then and only then do I move them to the hatcher.

So glad to see this post. I keep looking at all the lovely pictures thinking I would be ashamed to post pictures currently of mine. Most of mine have the muddy looks from all the snow and melting lately or the lawn mower look.

Got a EGG from the African group yesterday.

I've been under the weather for a couple of days, and just didn't feel like doing anything. Anywho..while I was gone I had a batch of ducklings hatch out, with more in the hatcher. And the most exciting part I am now the proud owner of two adorable goslings! These lil guys are my first goslings of 2013, and not to mention my first goslings EVER!! Excited. I do have some sad news tho, one of the goslings hatched out with a cross beak. We are going back and forth on culling him or keeping him for awhile and see how he does. I really do not have time for a special needs pet right now, and since I will not be able to use him for breeding he is just another mouth for me to feed. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for him, so for now he is staying. If anyone would like this lil fella, or knows of someone looking a pet goose that has LOTS of time on their hands..please send them my way.

And now pictures, without further ado~

Beaky

Misty

Both of my cuties inside fluffing out by the wood stove yesterday morning, after I pulled them out of the hatcher.

Beaky hatched from Ashley's (smooth grey Seb) first egg, and Misty from her 2nd egg. The daddy to these babies could be R.I.P. Cotton or Trouble, but more than likely it's Caspian (white curly Seb gander in my avatar). Time will tell. We're still uncertain on Misty's color..s/he is either a white gander..or possible a buff. I'm exciting to see what color she feathers in. I'm totally in love with these two fuzz balls. They got banished outside to my building, but will probably be coming inside for daily visits. Everytime I go check on them they come waddlin up to me and start talking. And I thought ducklings were adorable....

At what age does a Sebastopol hen (jenny) will start laying for the first time? I have one sebby goose that hatched last Easter. (will be a year old next month) I'm still not 100% sure if it is male or female. He/she has more curly feathers and looks to be pied (? I think that is what they call them when they are not solid white.) Been calling him/her LU. So it is either Lucy or Lou. Is waiting for an egg to be layed, or not, the best way or does anyone know of another?

Last fall. At a few days old.

Thanks,
Paula
