Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

After breeding season he should go back to normal. But if you let them raise the goslings he will keep up protection mode until raised. June is about the time they start to mellow out again.

What to do.......?

I just candled the Sebbie eggs my newly shipped girl laid. I have a double yolk in one egg. Should I pull it? I know it might be possible to hatch - anyone ever hatched doubles in a goose egg?

Any advice would be great!

I'd leave it in there unless you need the incubator space! Goose eggs are hard to hatch in general, so I would think that the chance of hatching a double yolker are slim. Worth a shot though!

I can't wait. Mine are evil. Glad to hear that the will be back to normal soon.

So, if one plans on using geese as natural incubators, would it be prudent to take the goslings away at hatch, if said person wants the geese and ganders back to "normal" behavior sooner?

Daze do you want the goslings imprinted on humans or not? My self I like to get the gosling right away and the day they hatch from mom and bring them in the house and take time with them to imprint on the goslings.
Now if it does not matter to you then let them raise the goslings. But they will protect the goslings until grown. So if you want your nice geese back take the babies away...

I want the goslings to be friendly to humans, but not necessary imprinted. I have an imprinted gander from a few years back when I first was hatching geese. He was my only gosling and I raised him with a ducklings, but he still thinks he is a human and comes running to me whenever I come outside and he will not talk or breed with the rest of the geese. A little sad...
Anyway, last year I let a trio raise 5 goslings, the gosling were very unsocial to people and the 8 of them were very unsocial and downright mean to any other outside geese for about a year!
So I will be taking them away at hatch to have my "nice" geese back asap. Thanks for the advice!

You are welcome. You do not have to keep them inside very long just enough to know humans are not going to harm them. After a few days inside I take them out to the garage and put them in a metal horse water tank. Put in pine shavings and make sure to pick them each up everyday. When warm enough take them out on sunny days to graze on grass and dandoline greens.
This is another way to imprint but not over doing it. Good Luck!

Yes, that sounds like the happy medium that I finally found last year. To make them friendly, but not dependent on you.
