Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

RURU, I got them from Nava. It was nice to get geese from someone I know and like. They are 3 years old and she got them as year olds from those "H" breeders. She still had their shipping boxes in the garage, quite large!

Most people do or did get their Sebastopol's from the H's. I know most of my lines come from there. But there are other breeders out there as well and I am trying to keep from inbreeding.
Yes, those are swan boxes....

Kelly, beautiful pics!!!

RURU, it must be tough having good breeding stock and yet having to find another for the breeding, and hoping it's as good a quality as your own. And you do have stunning sebs!

How cold is too cold for Sebastopol geese?

It's supposed to be - 28 degrees tomorrow with wind chills of - 60 and I won't be there to check on them. I gave them extra enclosed areas in the barn and tons of fresh hay before I left, but I'm still worried. Has anyone else experienced these temperatures with their geese?

I'm worried about all my poultry. The only pen I'm able to get heat to is my juvenile pen. I don't normally use the 250 watt bulbs but I have to for the next few days and I worry about using them around bedding. I have it very secure and It won't fall in the wood shavings but I worry about a faulty bulb and it bursting. That would be a big problem. It's gonna make it down to 2 degrees here by morning and the highest is gonna be 6 then back down to 2 at night. But wednesday it's going back up to a more manageable temp. I have 1 sebbie and it's with a pilgrim goose. They have a thick bedding but I can't get heat to them either.

I always worry about using heat lamps as well. I make sure it is very sturdy, like hung on a hook, tied in a knot, then duck taped! Then I try to do something underneath them, like a metal oil pan, or plastic rubbermaid bin, so if it does break or shatter, it would be less likely to start on fire. Good luck!
