Daze you are too funny. One of our girls is named Sassy.

Is your Sassy related to any of my babies?

my first ever sebbie gosling, it hatched out monday morning. I have a quick genetics question, the dad to this little guy is grey and the mom is white both of which are smooth breasted, so does that mean that this little one will have the genetics to throw white goslings? and will this little one grow up and be smooth breasted or curly both parents are smooth?

the big grey gander is his dad.

Will be a smooth baby, when you breed smooth x smooth you produce smooth off spring with very minimal curl at all. It looks to be a grey from the feet, bill and down coloring, and could be a gene carrier for white.

I agree with celtic oak. That color combination will throw grey females and splash males. If it was reversed with the male as white and female as grey then you would get splash females and grey males. Something to do with the color being sexlinked.

I'm on pins and needles myself. I shipped goslings for the FIRST time yesterday. I need them to get there soon before i go crazy! Hopefully the gro gel, honeydew and romaine will hold them over....Alabama to Vermont is a LONG way! 3pm deadline is rapidly approaching.

THEY MADE IT !!!

Litte guys reached the hub in VT at 2AM (so much for "by 3pm next day" guaantee) and she picked them up and they are OK!! They ate everything in their go box BUT the gro gel. Too much honeydew in there, I guess....they were little addicts for it. WHEW!!!! Congrats Stacey! We FINALLY did it!

Kim, file for a shipping refund. They have to refund the full shipping amount because they were late. Don't let the, tell you differently either. The express slip will have a date and time filled in on it. If they did not arrive by that date and that time they owe you the shipping back.

That is GREAT information...thank you.

To be honest, I was so relieved they were alright (and somewhat sleep deprived from current hatch in progress) that I never would have thought of that.

On another note, I just hatched a 2nd grey saddleback from my white gander x buff saddleback pair. I'm really excited to have another grey saddleback prospect to use 2013! Genetically, Pete thinks that combo produces "dilute"? grey males and white females carrying buff of course so I'm going on his expert knowledge!

Are you positive that smoothbreast x smoothbreast cannot produce a curly? Thinking back to equine genetics and paint horses, seems like it might give you a 25% shot at curly baby??? I have no idea??

Welcome! Congrats on the new saddleback. (still waiting for a Lola picture lol)

Will go back and read Pete's notes on curls, but I think I have it right that smooth x smooth = smooth

I have two Peaches babies dry, will get a picture of our Henri baby with them in sunlight today to share. It still looks to have a bronze hue, not a grey tone.

Oh and Pete thinks my girl I am keeping is a grey dilute too. Will be fun to watch her feather out more this summer.
