There's some pics in this album of this past weekend when everybody got to to swimming on the big pond for the first time! Please excuse the "rescue" duck. She has angel wing, but is lucky to be alive.

Kimberly- What cute pictures!! And a very nice pond, I am envious. Well that is a relief. Hatching sebbies is painfully stressful and I have two broody silkies but they can't hold 18 call duck eggs between the two of them so some will have to go in the bator. I won't panic too much about them!

Love your colored goslings, they are so cute!

Plant, I would be happy to have you visit and meet the gang. We pasture the youngsters, juveniles and adults together most days so we can easily show them off. If you want to see lots of color I would wait awhile since the little ones are just starting to feather. Either is fine though. We are open on Saturdays for our egg customers.
I say buy the color you want, but know they won't compete against the white Sebastopols if shown. Eventually another color will be listed by the APA, but it will take time and getting people to get out there and show them so their is obvious interest.

Just let us know when is good for you. The youngest goslings get put away if rain is coming, otherwise everyone is out on grass all day.

We adore our Sebbies. After hatching, we raise them for a few months inside before putting them with the rest of the flock. We take them outside on little jaunts so they can forage and get fresh air and sunshine. It still amazes me how quickly the adult geese welcome the little ones. We have had no problems integrating new goslings...even with Mr. Crabby Pants gander in the throes of breeding season. He's been gentle and welcoming to all the littles. Is it like that for everyone?

The pic of the gosling in the kitchen...he was the lone survivor of a fox attack. All the ducklings that were with him were killed. He had his neck ripped open. There was not enough skin to stitch him back together. I really did not believe he would make it when we first found him. We brought him back inside to live in the kitchen for a few weeks. All we could do was clean the area and blukote his neck. He is observing my husband while he cooks dinner in this pic. I really wish I had a camera handy when our cat, 2 dogs and the goose were all drinking out of the same waterbowl together. :0) The gosling has almost completely healed...and is back outside living with the flock.

We had to get real creative with our goose bed. It's his bed only. He is out all day with either us or the chickens. The other bed was a very large box. This is just a kiddy pool with some fence around the inside. He/she seems to like it. He/she was eating it's way out of that cardboard box. Had to come up with something. The chickens steal his food and he will not eat after them. Guess I don't blame him/her I wouldn't either. I just hope Skeezix doesn't get any bigger. He/She is about 3 months old. Still has a little bit of baby fuzz on it's neck. I had to put a can inside a large cooking pan cause of the mess he/she makes with the water. I had no clue they are so messy. We like having him/her in the cellar. It's just right year round for it to sleep. I would like to put diapers on it and let it come upstairs when the weather is nasty and he/she cannot go out. We have a lot of animals around here that would not have any problems making a meal out of our Skeezix. I don't want anyone to think that our goose is inside all the time cause he/she is not. We have a huge pond we take him/her swimming in every day. It's such a baby it would not go in swimming alone. I have to paddle around the pond in our canoe a few times and let him/her have it's bath. Takes a good hour and then he/she goes in with the chickens for the rest of the day. They all get on pretty good. He nibbles them a little but they do not seem to mind. They do not fear each other and I am so glad of that. This is our first goose. We don't know the sex of it yet and probably wont until it either lays an egg or not. LOL.

Thats just a juvenile, lots of growing yet to go for sure. Living in a cellar isn't the ideal place for a goose. They need sunshine, and to be outside grazing as grass/weeds ect and it should be the largest part of their diet. I would also suggest plastic for the water so you don't run the risk of metal leaching into the water. Metal poisoning can kill a goose.
