This is Claire, and her boyfriend Ginsberg on the way to spoil her alone time.
I have been trying to tuck the pools into shady spots lately. Boy they get hot quick!

do geese and ducks get lice and mites? Had a silkie come down really sick last night and found little Bugs all over him, treated the yard, cleaned all the birds houses, sprayed the whole yard, dusted chicken houses and best boxes, put ivermectin on all Chickens and DE in waterfowl houses, but i didn't treat ducks and geese, themselves because i don't know if i should.

I am glad you asked that.. HOW do you keep the bugs off the geese???

I got a 50 lb bag of DE and every week or so I dust all the coops, straw bedding, all around the dogs, everywhere. You can dust the birds themselves too, but I can't say my geese have ever had the same kind of problems that the chickens can. I think because they bathe every day they they don't attract mites. (?)

Since we didn't really have a winter, the bugs were especially bad this year. Even the vets are admitting Frontline and the likes are not effective for fleas and ticks like they used to be.

(* I don't use 50lbs a week- the bag will last all year)

I am scared of that stuff... It is crushed... powdered shells...it slices and dices.. sounds fine when it comes to killing bugs.. but I don't want it in my lungs....That stuff doesn't go away.

I use the food grade stuff. Its like flour. The vet told me to put it right on the dogs and rub it into their fur.
I resisted using it as well, but after the plague-like invasion of bugs we had, I am glad I tried it. The dogs seem happier too.

I know this is off topic... but just wanted to touch on this subject for a min... I have used frontline .. no go here... Advantage works great. I do use a shampoo with DE in it for my puppies...but it gets washed out so I am not afraid of that :)
