Sebastopol geese

were potentially looking to add a sebastopol (preferably grey or grey saddleback) to our family as a house goose...
we reacently lost our male african who was just amazing (older when we got him as a rescue and just took to being a house goose like...well...a duck to water...lol.

anywho, when he passed we planned on adding another then found out about sebastopol geese, and have heard such great thigns and love em...

so if anyone knows anyone with/gonna have goslings in or around ct (or further afeild willing to ship single...) that would be great!

If I was going to keep a goose in the house, and I'm not, I couldn't
think of a better breed. They are calm and quiet and basically non- aggressive compared to other breeds. They are friendly and loving.
Putting one in the house presents special problems. You have to diaper
them and as you probably already know, they have very active systems.
They eat grass and some grain which is a natural laxative so be prepared
for a mess. They are very calm around children except when nesting
or actively laying. They are sensitive and loving animals and will sit and
love you all day if allowed to. They will follow you around to the point
of distraction though.
When they grow older they tend to be somewhat more independent
and probably are most happy outside, thats just my opinion and others
will vary. Ours graze all day and just wander, swim and are wonderful
to have around. You can't help but love them. All have very distinctive
personalities, most are loving some are skiddish around people.
Best way to try is to get a newborn and get them in a pair. They like to be
with their own kind and will do much better around other geese.

there stunning, i love the saddleback!

the general idea would be goosey would have acess to the garden during the day with the chickens but lots of human company and one on one time at night...

i love the look lol

I have saddlebacks but I only have day olds now and would never ship just one.

Thanks everyone. A little background if interested: My wife Ginger, also a member here, was looking around on the web one evening and ran across
Cottage Rose's website. We had several geese around our pond and were
really enjoying them and thinking of getting a few more. Cottage Rose
hooked me on the Sabastopols. Hers were just lovely and I had never
seen such a stunning bird. Her insight and understanding of these
majestic birds has been priceless to us and the information that she
has been so generous with has been so very helpful. Thanks Vicky!
I've owned geese on and off for years but have never found a breed
so friendly and intelligent as the Sebastopols. Their temperament
added to their true beauty makes the Sabastopol the geese of choice
for me. Not one bit of meanness in our 8 and the only time they get
the least bit testy is on the nest or while breeding. Or big male Sigma
is all of 25 or so pounds and you could put him in your lap and watch
TV for hours. We spend a lot of time with ours and they tame easily.

I hate to say this since I was soooooo excited to get my chicks and ducks, but now that I have 2 sebbie goslings......they get all my attention!!! They are soooooooooooooooooooo much fun!! I've been taking them out in the evenings to get some time in with the grass and all and they love it. Last night the girl kept trying to get in my lap, she just wanted petted and loved. I walked around the house and they just follow you, they are just too cute!!

Cottage Rose's sebbies spurred me into wanting them, and her website/page gives such good information about them that I felt comfortable diving in!! Thank You Cottage Rose!!
