Sorry to hear your pens were damaged by the snow my runs are sagging need to clear them off again what's on them now is all from the trees. Wish I had room to get a pair of these they are beautiful! And from visiting you I remember them being super friendly. Who ever gets these will be very lucky.

Henry its really bad and I cant repair most of this untill the snow thaws and the ground isnt frozen.
As this thaws it is creating so much mud.. its depressing me!

Oh Kat, they are just perfect. I would so love to have some as well... if I only had the land. "One day" my husband keeps saying... "one day"

Oh Kat that is really bad we are alright here in comparison. Where are you keeping everyone now? Are they all in free ranging or in the silkie and free range coops? If you need help rebuilding some this spring I defently would be willing to come up a few days and help.

I am so sorry about your damage!! maybe you could work out a foster situation this spring, foster person could keep/sell eggs, and you get your birds back in the summer. That's what I would try to work out before I woudl bail on such a gorgeous flock!

I was able to temporarily repair some of the pens, so everyone is doubled and trippled up..... and crowded

Problem is the geese are starting to fight since it is their breeding season, so finding places for them is difficult.... and did I mention the MUD?!!
Its been 2 weeks since the storm and I just today caught another peacock that got out... still dont know how many birds are missing.
The chickens are mostly free ranging, so no pure eggs for me ... and the peacocks wont breed for a few months yet, so I may be able to seperate some colors.

Anyway, I hope some of you would like these geese. they are very sweet and tame and beautiful.

Maybe building what they call 'hoop houses' would be a quick fix? To make them some people use curved cattle panels or pvc pipes attached to square frames. Or maybe borrow or get a used dog kennel off craigslist. They may be smaller enclosures that you'd like but not a shoebox & it'd be safer for your animals than free ranging in high snow where it's hard for even people to walk. Maybe list them on a local Craigslist with your great photos.?
