I received a straight run Sebastopol gosling from Metzer last Wednesday. Friday I noticed him chewing on his right wing. I didn't think anything of it tho as I know they preen. However, today I notice it's staying wet and the wing itself is getting a little red. Is it nerves or boredom or could it be something more??

It may just be a little dirt, like some poop or food he got on him. Have you tried letting him bathe?

I have. He's been swimming for short periods the past couple days. He's a happy little guy and it may be bothering me more than it is him, but it's just strange that it's just the 1 wing. We are in muggy mosquito ridden Mississippi, perhaps it's a mosquito bite, who knows?

A mosquito bite sounds very likely. That would explain both the biting and that it's only the one wing. And those can stay itchy for a week - on me, that is. From the picture it doesn't look alarming. I hope it goes away in a few days.

I don't thinks its anything to be concerned about just now. However be prepared for the chewing. Sebastopols are incessant chewers. You should see the siding on my house lol.

Haha good to know! I've been letting him, our Embden gosling and our duckling outside as much as possible and that seems to decrease the chewing on baby fluff(his and the others), but yesterday they were in the brooder all day as we were away for the day and he was covered in goose spit so there's definitely a correlation between lack of foraging and his chewing. I just never had to deal with this with my Toulouse so it's freaked me Out a bit!

The chewing drives me crazy with my goslings. They look like they've been through a carwash until their feathers come in good. Keeping a red light only on them seems to help when they are very young. But once they have to go out to the grow out pens...:barnie
