So my pair of sebastapol geese are now about 6 weeks old. Their just starting to get feathers on their wings, face, and tails. My question is, does the loose feathering start along as normals feathers and they grow into it or do they get them right away.

On my solid white one, which I believe is the gander, his feathers seem loose and such. The other, not so much. I love them both, but it would be disappointing if they didn't have the lovely feathers.

Looks like the white might be curly but the other one is going to be a smooth breasted of what I can see. The way to really tell is on the tail if the feathers are all together and pointing straight up in the air and every where else looks flat they a smooth breasted. Yes you will get feathers that stream with smooth breasted. Now on the curly the tail feathers spread out more and aim kind of straight out horizontal. Hope that helps some.

I was disappointed in a lot of my babies that I bred and raised last year, so scrapped the colors project till I had good enough whites to improve the feather quality and try to produce nice curly colored sebbies. Sebastopols with little or no curly feathers just look like mixed geese to me.
The best way to be sure and get curls is buy geese later in the summer or fall when they have developed some curls or go visit the breeder to see their quality of stock before choosing to order from them.

Hey Kim,

Not always do we get what we are looking for in type or feathering. This is why we grow out goslings to pick the one we are looking for. Nesie I got from you and Dillan. Dillan does not have the best feathering this year. I am hoping he molts out these out and gets the better feathering this year. I have spotted he is growing some Cream feathers. I was watching him preen and it was in the sun and I seen about five or more per wing feathers. He also has them aback in the tail feathers. So he is a cream splash. They are NOT buff colored but cream colored. Thought you would like to know this.
