My sebright started laying around 7 and a half months.I have a question to anyone that has a Sebright? When do they usually start laying eggs. Mine should be the right age so I'm wondering when have your chickens started laying?
My girl was skittish too. They are a wild breed!I wonder if mine will lay before it gets cold or if it will wait until next spring. I've had her for 2 months and she was 4 and a half months when I got her. She is such a skittish little bird. She has warmed up a little bit but I still can't get to close to her. She will come close to me when I'm sitting in a chair in their pen but runs away a lot. Do you have any other info about your bird. What color eggs? Cold tolerance, anything? I could google but it's more fun hearing from someone else. Thanks
Haha that's funny! Yes, you are right. I had a sebright. It's quite the long story but she had to leave because she was crowing like a rooster. So no more sebrights. But in the time I had her I learned a lot. Here's her story if you want to read it.Do you still have your sebright? You kind of talk about her in the past tenWse. Mine did the funniest thing yesterday. My cat always wants to come in the pen. He used to stalk them a little but never got the chance to do anything to them. My sebright doesn't like him and yesterday Soli went into the pen and I was in their house and I heard a meow. My bird had Soli up against the fence and Soli ran off when I came out and the Sebright chased after him and Soli ran into some cover. That was so funny. Smallest bird in the place and Soli's afraid of it. Well maybe it will have to come in the house and stay in my Sunroom. I thought I read in the info about them that they don't like the cold much. Either that or i'll put a red bulb in the coop. I guess if I can put a fan in their coop in the summer I can put a heat light in there in the winter. Every other bird is a cold hardy bird. Didn't know anything about Sebrights when I got mine. thanks for the info.
Yes sebrights are not a broody breed. But that doesn't always mean they won't brood. My grandma had a sebright who was constantly broody too. The best way to prevent broodiness is to take all eggs out (real or fake) and make the nests not super isolated and dark.Hi! I have a question... I have a silver sebright (who I adore!!!) that has gone broody twice on me and she's only 7 months old! From what I've ready is that they normally aren't a broody breed... but she's just bound and determined to hatch a golf ball. Is there anything I can do to help stop her from going broody- or just keep breaking her when she does?
thanks for the advice!
