**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Carefully sand off the brown pigment in stripes, end to end, to look like a striped watermelon.  Look at Renee's posts, ( CHooksChick) and see if she has instructions listed.  I got the info from her originally.  I know I have it stored in Word if you need me to find it.

For some reason I thought it actually involved a watermelon.

Quote: I have a Chinese Crested/Terrier. She's a wonderful, albeit ugly, companion.

She wears a sweater most of the year, but we take it off when it hits 90* This is her next to our 30# cat.

It's a method of sanding dark eggs for easier evaporation so the chicks aren't too big to hatch.

I ended up with 34 dozen set. Some ~3 doz are due sooner and will likely quit due to the 112* heat spike day before Easter, but 382 were set for CdM...I'm barking mad.

Still in!!!! Didn't see myself on the list! Not sure of the exact count, but it should be around 40ish. Only chickens, although I did try to find 2 or 3 turkey eggs, but couldn't find anyone who wasn't charging shipping for 12+, so it's just chickens. Amazing chickens though!

I haven't updated the names...I'll get there eventually...but I'm in a heavy work zone right now, so I'm only jumping on for a minute or two at a time...If someone else who posted on page 1 wants to take this duty on, I can point post 1 to it.

Silly little duck laid two more eggs. Guess where they went when I didn't find any cracks? So that makes 4 duck eggs total. I swear I won't add any more.

Um, Raz, I think you MUST set all eggs laid this week so that you won't end up with a lonely only. It's your duty.

Does anyone dry hatch turkey eggs?

Me, ME!!!

I dry hatch nearly everything, even ducks and geese. I DON'T dry hatch quail, because they seem to have such thin shells that they desiccate too much.

OK OK OK Now your gonna love this

I just ordered 36 Wishard Bronze turkey eggs and they will be here Over night ,
IM HYPED Can someone tell me what the heck they will look like ?

I am assuming that they are regular bronze but the wishard is a breeder ? The guy was happy to help and since they are local VERY and know how we just got 4h back he was happy to help.
I did not ask for anything and he said OK he will send me extra but a warning his hatch rate is 90%

I am excited about this finally got my eggs for the kids and will get to do the project YEAH.

I'm so glad! I just saw your messages and hadn't replied yet!

Who else needs turkeys? I can send 8 for $45

I started peeling back the netting on my run and they are getting out and yet still laying in their coop, so it's working well. I have one girl who shuns the coop and squeezes into the Chantecler coop (9" x 10" pop door, 12" topless square nest box!) and lays in their nest. What a relief!
I would, but I don't want them hatching too far apart. I still only have one bator, but if Blu has any say in things I'll end up with another one sometime this year!

I've converted him to chickens. In fact, when he got up to go to work this morning Bob (the RIR/BA he claimed as his) started crowing! He's loving it.

I got my turkey eggs today! Thank you Arielle! First time for turkeys. So eggcited!

Question... I dry hatch, is that ok with turkeys? Its pretty dry here.

Had me worried!!!

I hatch my turkey eggs right along side my chicken eggs. How much humidity depends on the rate of drying in the eggs. The development of the air cell in a timely manner is iimportant, just like a chicken egg. Do you have a diagram to follow during candling?? I "dry" hatch, but I do add moisture as necessary to keep the air cell the correct size. If you are very dry, or use a fan in the incubator, monitor air cells carefully nad add water as necessary.

Many online diagrams to print and keep on hand while candling. Pick one that works for you. SOme are colored, some black and white. Use this phrase " air cells at 7th, 14th and 18th day" and look for the one that has both chicken and turkey eggs as the turkey eggs dry a little slower but for an extra week.

Oooooooo I pick the second one!

So I just totally cheered myself up. I have 12+ buff/golden laced Brahma eggs heading my way today to add this weekend for tutors. Can't wait to set those babies too!

Soooo I posted an ad on craigslist to sell some chicks. I got a call from a lady, she said she has 13 chicks she needs to find a home for. She bought them 2 weeks ago and now she is moving. I explained that I did not need any more chicks and that she should place an ad on CL. She did now know how, so I walked her through the CL part. We hung up. 10 minutes later she calls me back. I have been on the phone with her for 10 minutes trying to get her signed in to her Gmail account. At one point she was inputting her gmail information on CL. She is now on the Gmail account and can't find where it says to read her mail.

OK, I just hung up with her. The 2nd call was 42 minutes long, but she got her ad posted.
How much did you charge her for Tech support?

Sounds like my mom, lol. Every time she has to do something online besides read her email or bid on ebay she calls me. I usually have to open up the same website and say "ok, see that green box in the upper right hand corner? click that"

I just set chicken eggs tonight to hatch along with last weeks set turkey eggs. One of my OE eggs got cracked a few days ago( I dropped another egg on it while I was admireing my Marans eggs
hide.gif
) I kept it with the other eggs not planning to set it but as a just incase I decide to set it( we all knew I was gonna set it lol but hey I tried) So tonight I decided last min I was gonna fix the egg and set it anyway with no space in the incubator mind you. I melted candle wax to cover the hairline cracks and the egg is now laying beside the auto turner on the wire floor with an X on one side O on the other.

This is my first time mending a cracked egg, also my first time filling, now over filling the bator, and first time with a hand turned egg.

I think its time I designed with my straight jacket... Who here sews and can you mail it to me ASAP
LOL, sorrry for laughing. I didn't have the money for a turner, and now I don't regret not buying one. I can fit in a TON more eggs without it!! I've tried tapeon cracks and that didn't work, so I hope you have good luck with the wax which sounds like a better method. I have given upon fixing eggs, I just toss the eggs now if cracked or have holes.

YOu will enjoy looking at the eggs 3-5 times a day as you turn that extra. Just a word of caution. Freshly washed hands are very slippery. THat's when I drop the most eggs. I prefer to use clean hands, just not freshly washed . . . .
