**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Confession- I candled, but, but, but, I put a bunch of Partridge Brahma n Silkies in lockdown. I can almost say it was an Accident! Perhaps I couldn't tell which they were by size?

Guilty I sowwy.

But three of four turk have veins! My first ones ever! Yay! HappyChooks thank u!

I Can just see one of my nephews or nieces saying just those words when they were little, " but, but, but I didn't do it uncle Mike"

I candled my non-shipped eggs ( Day 4) last night and either each one is developing or they have all gone bad in the same way. I am opting for optimism.

If they hatch these will all be barnyard mix dual purpose birds with Delaware, Australorp, Buff Orp and Production Red mamas under either Ray the wonder roo or a mix...maybe a Golden Comet boy. I am quite excited. I did look at a few of my dorking eggs, then got scared I would hurt them and put them back until Friday which will be day 7 that's when I will candle your eggs too Renee...I am fresh off the turnip truck when it comes to this hatching business think I know a little what I am looking for but you all should expect questions a plenty.
I am actually really hoping your eggs from me made it safely and are all cooking away!! I might be okay with you candling whenever...

Same with you...how are the cochin eggs doing from me, too? I'm bad about candling. Not SCG bad, but bad, still.

This is one way I am glad to be out of the Little Giants, too- I always burned the heck out of the backs of my hands reaching in to candle and mess with the eggs, thinking it wasn't so bad if I didn't open the whole lid...negative reinforcement, right?

WOW! A day away from the computer & a hundred posts to catch up on....maybe later

I disagree. I was attacked by geese when I was small & am wary of them to this day. My neighbor got some & I won't go anywhere near them. Plus their honking drives me nuts.
It's funny tho, cuz he has a couple peafowl & they are vocalizing all thru the night lately. Their sound doesn't bother me. Weird.

My cat has had allergy symptoms since I found a baby chook & brought him in the house last Feb. Now all the chooks are out & she still snuffles and snorts. One Doc said to put her on Chlor-Trimetron to dry her up. Didn't work. Now she has a huge growth between her eyes that distorts her face & curls back her eyelid. I took her to the vet & he lanced it & drained it, but that was only dealing with that infection...not the allergy. This cat has never been sick. I'm soooo upset.

Sorry...I know this board is not the right place for that post. Just trying to explain why I'm not on much lately.

Quote: 3 out of 4 turks, and nothing in two of the others, but the rest look awesome! whoot! I ordered the makings for another coolerbator yesterday, I am full even pulling out lockdown and I have over 3 doz to set, but I do have another broody.

Broody question... she sat for two days now, can I add cold eggs to her or should I bator them until warm and give them?

I am new to BYC and Incubating but hatched 1 setting of chicks so far this spring, and it just happens I set 12 turkey eggs last week, evening of the 4th. was not aware of the hatchalong at that time but here I am anyway. We will see what happens. Any hints for a biginner.

Welcome! If read the first post, there is a link under Helpful Hints on incubating turkey eggs, that should help.
