**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

:'( I didn't get to candle last night. My youngest (turns 5 tomorrow) is sick and every time I tried to leave his sight he started throwing a fit. Tonight. :hope.

I really need to get a list of the smilies. Grrrrr for mobile use.
I hope he is feeling better in time for his birthday. Do you have a party planned for him tomorrow? My sons birthday is also tomorrow, he will be 8, and it is also my BIL birthday.

Boston just came by the office this morning... told me all his hens are laying like CRAZY in Heber... I told him to put some BCMs in for me this weekend... I figure as long as I'll be brooding, the more the merrier, right?
Yep,

My tutors arrived today.

Some Norwegian Jaerhorns (for my feed store friend, Nancy) and a mix off EEs, Lav Orps and Gold Laced Brahmas from a swap. Perfect timing for a day of rest and then in to join the turkeys!
I have not candled.........waiting until the 21st.....unless something gets smelly.

I have chicks hatching this weekend also!

Oh, I will someday...trust me!

Today has been hectic. I had one hen die of MCDS (Mysterious Chicken Death Syndrome). No visible signs of illness...just found dead. Spent all day cleaning & scrubbing out coops, pens, roosts...EVERYTHING!!! I am sooo tired. Came inside to take a break & started squealing when I walked into the office. My Flarry Eye hatched!!!!! What a pleasant surprise to a bad day.

Took kitty to a different vet...a much better vet! The good news is no cancer cells or fungal problems. She seems to be responding well to the antibiotics. I still have to force feed her. Her nasal passages are swollen & she can't smell. Cats eat with their nose, so if she can't smell it, she don't wanna eat it. She did look better last night. Look like she tried to eat a little. At least she's not hiding from us anymore...(much) :)

Here's my Hulsey's Thaidye!

Beautiful! I don't get the comb trimming, tho. I know they do it for showing (and fighting
ep.gif
) but IMO, they look better with the combs. I went to a rooster show recently & they were all trimmed except one (who was probably disqualified), but to me, he was just more impressive with his big, beautiful comb.

Your birds are beautiful, tho. LOVE that peaches & cream coloring.

Second Annual Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatch a long Digest 4-12-2013

The early evening discussion was about mating behaviors. A good time was has by all as we were entertained by pictures and images of what posturing was for different species-even people….Rams are Gentleman….Dorset Bucks know how to treat a Lady…some turkeys take turns—poor girl….gryeyes corrected me—Turkey mating is not messy, just ugly….

Arielle compared Home raised Turkey meat to both a corn muffin and commercially raised birds. The home raised turkey is clearly better.

SCG tried to distract herself from candling by buying Dark Cornish hatching eggs! It did not work though. Now she has hatching eggs coming and the Turkey eggs have been candled….Candling distraction carried over to tazcat70—forgot what she was going to post even.

JD4570 got his Turkey eggs and will set them late We are Happy!

Goose Pate was talked about. Ethical treatment of Geese too.

Tommysgirl wants Turkeys again now. She had them once and she has fond memories of them escaping and harassing the neighbor. “The best thing about them was how they tasted” She said.

Wildriversworf90 had a power outage and was freaking out worried about the eggs! Wrap it up. Then put it in a box cayuseRanch said: "Grandma used to hatch in a cook stove." Lotsapaints said to wrap the incubator up in a blanket. She unplugged one for half a day once and all the eggs were fine! Rocks and hot water were also recommended. The power came back on at 7 in the morning!

ThaiDye is staggered hatching in a Brinsea. Some have pips but others were set on Sunday…Hoping for zipping chicks in the morning.

Sally Sunshine wished us good Morning!

Cmfarm forgot the hatch date for a set of eggs—found them piping already! Yinepu did the same thing yesterday!

HEChicken has a Broody Serama and may let her hatch some Turkey eggs.

Manningjw is picking up hatching eggs from a Leghorn/Ameraucana Rooster with Austra-White hens.

SilkieSensation is looking for slikie eggs(Duhh) and has Ducks and EEs plus assorted layers to trade! Pele posted that there were Turkey eggs available. SilkieSensation wants them! Tommysgirl said papa brooder has silkies(Yes I hatched some for him). Pele can’t have Ducks though. SilkieSensation then offered EEs…

Boston visited Mahonri and Mahonri asked him to put some BCM eggs into his incubator.

Cmfarm set the tutors!

Sally Shunshine wondered if Chickens would raise her home owners insurance premium. Loghousemom said it did not change hers.

Uphilljill set 35 eggs total. NotAFarm loaded up the bator with her tutors today too.

Good information to have! Unfortunately, I already buried her. She was already getting stiff when I found her. I will definitely check into that if I have another episode. Last one I had was last May or June (thank goodness).

I refuse to dub the combs on my OEGB. I don't show so not a big deal. I just think it's cruel so won't do it.

Thanks guy. Someone on GB let me know it would work, so I met up and loaned it out. Have a nervous first time hatcher with a ton of expensive Silkie eggs. LOL Renee I gave her a link to your cheat sheet. I told her not to listen to anyone else. LOL I need to get her on BYC now.
