ChooksChick checked in and reported about the trials of overheated eggs and candling on a cold cement floor. Things could be worse I suppose. Yinepu said that is why she does not use big bators.

Happy Hatching!

if it was early on they would have been ok.. but later in incubation the chicks were probably weakened too much from the lack of oxygen to make it out of the shell (think brain damage and organ failure)
OK Like me. Not kidding. I just candled and I don't know why I thought I had 7 turkey eggs. I have 9 and I only saw activity in 4 for sure, but I do see embryos for sure in those, so I'll wait and check closer to lockdown. I found a lot of later and middle of incubation quiters from the last hatch. Some that I thought had chicks didn't and a few that were shrink wrapped, but I figure that was from no airflow. Lots of quiters, poor babies
hit.gif
All my fault! That ain't gonna happen this time. Vents are staying wide open no matter what!

On a good note, my co-broody Phoenix girls hatched the last egg. So out of 12 eggs, I pulled 3, lost one chick and have 8 chicks ranging from 2 weeks to one day. LOL What a spread! I also got a total of 10 Silkie eggs last year and the year before. My girls are laying like crazy now. The first ones in weren't fertile, but the next 3 hatches are developing. I'm so glad since I had set these last ones and then met up with 3 out of the bator to add to someone else's hatch, so hopefully she'll get her whites that she can dye now.
