**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

I'm convinced ALL my turkeys are boys, even the 2 I bought (bbw).

They are finally in the coop with the rest of the birds. Because they had the cornish with them, who adamantly refused to feather out, they just went out (and the cornish are still sadly mangy). The BBWs and their cornish tutor went out today into a cage and will be released Saturday AM or Friday at bedtime. Anyway, I went out to the coop tonight to put everyone in and could not find my CdM poults. I eventually located them:

There was a bad storm this evening, lots of rain, thunder and lightening. Seems like they found a safe, warm and dry spot to hunker down.

Since I have about 40 poults.............I'm pretty sure I have both, LOL

I'm really liking the black ones.

My turkeys are still laying a few eggs. One of the hens is quite determined to sit, so I let her keep the last 3 eggs.

What do you like about the black ones? Coloring or personality or both?

Well, I think my single Narraganset poult is Nigel, not Nancy. Yesterday it displayed for the first time and with some neck posturing next to one of its brood buddy chicks. I never saw any of that with the BBB hens. Also, there is a bit of the fleshy lump stuff at the bottom of the neck wattle, which I've not seen on the MW or BBB hens.

I know you have pictures of Nigel. Give them up.

It has to be the color I suppose, since they were produced by my slates. Even though I sand my runs, my RP and slates always look dingy, so I think I'm leaning towards just keeping the blacks.
Waiting on my 1st batch from my slates to hatch. They are due the 18th.

I got 2 babies from the eggs you sent me. There's still 1 egg in the bator (will candle it tonight). 1 was a mega fluffy chick with super puffy cheeks. We named it Puff. The other was a naked neck!!!! We named it Moe because JJ says it looks like Moe from the 3 stooges.

Both were from olive eggs, so YAY! I love colored eggs! Hoping Moe is a boy but will be happy either way.

I just have to say we love, love, LOVE our turkeys. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that all six that hatched for us this year are toms. I still have my finger's crossed for one slow developer I'm on the fence about, but it's acting/looking more male every day. So I guess we will be trying again next Cinco de Mayo.

Despite the treatment by the PO, the surviving ducks eggs did pretty well. They lock down today, two of them pipped last night (both Pekin). I even set the four eggs that were only cracked/dented. My theory was the membrane inside is pretty tough. All four developed, three quit but one is in lockdown.

I'll let you know the results in a few days.

The quail didn't fare as well as the duckies did. I got 4 cots to hatch & lost 1. Still waiting to see if any of the bobs will hatch. They were due Wed & the cots were all 2-3 days late so these will probably be late too if any hatch.
