**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

You all are hilarious!

Any breed of teenagers you want to get rid of. ;) I may have found a solution. I know someone who has a farm, I told her about the turkey eggs, and offered to hatch them. We will see how it works out.

Renee & Shawn that is awful! I had a lot of late deaths but nothing like that. :hugs

Renee, on contests. I will do a broody photo contest.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!!!!

fduncan-- I learned Renee's trick a little late, but do recommend it to those that buy my marans eggs. ( I have black copper marans, with the feathers, no blues in this line,) I do have hatching eggs for sale .

Renee- thanks for the tid bits on good management. Mine love breads but not their greens so much! Just like my kids, feed the greens when they are hungry and save the bread for dessert. lol

I found a nest of Bourbon Turkey eggs in the BR coop !!!!

Looks like more hens are laying. That means I will have both Sweetgrass and Bourbon Reds to set this year!!! I keep looking over the Auburns hoping that somehow I missed seeing a hen-- parthenogenisis popped into my head-- where one gender chnages to another I think, I may be mistaken, whatever the process is, I NEED it!! lol As for the Narri, one is definitely a male, the other is big but doesn't act like the other, so IDK, I just wait and see if eggs show up!

If anyone needs ( or wants) Sweetgrass or Bourbon Reds, let me know asap. You can see nice pics at porters web site.

Got some Tutor eggs from a neighbor. They were refrigerated but I'm gonna give it a shot. So I am half way in. Gonna have to set early though

being in the fridge won't hurt them at all so long as the air cells haven't gotten too big while in storage and they have been turned a bit.. (if the air cells are too big just bump up the humidity a bit and see if it helps)

As a note:
Here's my method (I experimented for quite a while with this one before I got it to where I was happy with the results):

when I store hatching eggs I put them in a carton (styro preferred) with the pointy end down.. and put the carton of eggs in a zip loc bag (usually gallon size)

I then take a paper towel and fold it several times and soak it in oxine (listerine and water mix will also work) and add that to the bag under or next to the carton (not on top)

then I zip the bag closed and put them in the fridge.. turning the carton side to side a bit every day until I pull them from the fridge to hatch. (allowing them to come to room temp before placing in the incubator)

i can keep them viable for a minimum of 21 days that way.. but, as a note.. hatchability does start to drop if you leave them for too long.
With my own "farm fresh" eggs I can still get a good solid 90 to 100% hatch rate on eggs I store this way

Introducing "Peepers"

Once she gets her butt out of the shell and fluffs.. I'll have to take another picture

which reminds me... she is an "only gosling".. so tomorrow I'll be heading to Walmart to take advantage of the 50% off on small plush bunnies and ducks

I usually hit Walmart anyway the day after easter to grab them for the dogs (they make for cheap dog toys)... but for anyone who may be like Peepers, they also make for cheap snuggle buddies..

as the next week or so passes Walmart will keep dropping the price on those.. so I'll be hitting them a few more times before it's all said and done.
lol. time to stock up!
