**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

The rain fell and fell
And the thunder loudly crashed
but the sun came out! :celebrate

:frow good morning everyone. Hope you all are having a great. I have chicks going into lock down tomorrow :weee got some blue oprs in their after waiting months for her eggs to be fertile, so i'm hoping all her eggs hatch.
 by the end of April I will have (hopefully) another 70-80 chicks. But most of these are pre-sold so i won't be to flooded with chicks  I think I may need a straight jacket to keep from filling my bator again  who am i kidding I already have eggs waiting to take the place of the ones due to hatch 17th.

I might be picking up some ducklings today to add to my poultry collection

. I got DH to agree to it he already has a pond planned with a circulating water pump. Im very excited though nervous. My yard is gonna run out of room and so are my brooders. Ive read alot about ducklings but does anyone else have any tips? And I might be picking up Blue Swedish any thoughts on that breed?

Apparently my dates were a bit off. After only about a day or two since my last chicks hatched, I have more hatching! I just pulled 5 little fuzzies out from under Honey. Needless to say she was not happy.

Just unwrapped my gold/buff laced Brahma eggs. Not a single egg cracked. He did a great job packaging. Can't wait to pop them in the bator (before DH notices that we may or may not have "new" eggs

). I did a little candling this morning and saw development in many of the turkey eggs (both shipped and home grown)

seems like it is going to take forever to get to hatching day (tapping foot impatienly)

Okay, 2 Flarry eyes out...3 to go
fl.gif

Moved chicks to brooder, left remaining 3eggs in bator & candled the rest (staggered hatch):
Out of 3 Brabanter eggs, 2 look good, 1 questionable
3 Swedish Flowers-2 blood rings(?) & 1 clear
4 GL Brahmas- 3 good, 1 clear
3 Blue/Black Marans-2 good(?), 1 clear
4 Creme Legbar-2 good(?), 1 br(?), 1 clear
8 Easter Eggers-8 good(?)
1 mystery egg found at neighbors house- good (I think)

sooo hard to tell with the dark brown & blue eggs.

Really disappointed about the Swedish Flowers. All eggs still inside until next candling (just in case)

p.s. I don't usually take my neighbor's eggs, but this was laying near the dog food bowl & was just too pretty to pass up. (Brown with lavender speckles)

I ordered eggs online (some from Ebay, some from another BYCer) & coordinated the sellers to ship on a certain date. Then told the post office to please call me to pick up (hoping DH wouldn't notice my new found egg obsession). Next thing I know, he walks in the room with 2 boxes marked "Live Hatching Eggs"
Oh well, at least I didn't lie about them.

Apparently, I can't read my own notes. I have 4 Brabanters & 3 GLB's. My eggs are marked Br & BB, so when I saw Br, I thought Brabanter! LOL

Just got home from work.

My Icelandic "Cloud" looked like she'd gone broody so I thought, why not put the 8 eggs under her?

She felt the cold eggs and promptly got off of the nest.

Guess I'm going to pull the bator out of storage and pray for success.... and that she'll go broody again so that when they hatch they can go under her!

I hatched out 24 blue/black sex link chicks so far, and I have 16 boys and only 8 girls. I have 4 more eggs that look good to hatch, so I hope to get at least a few more girls. They are barred rock hens and a blue Marans rooster and the blue ones are so pretty. But I am going to have to move him in with the new BCM that I got so I can get blue and black Marans chicks.
