**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Well, I'm going to be a day late. Yesterday I worked most of the day, today was too busy with Church... I'll get out the bator and I'll be the last of y'all to hatch.

I had candled my 9 call duck eggs when I was candling to move some eggs to lockdown. I only have 1 that isn't clear, so my Cinco de Mayo hatch may be very small.

I did set some assorted Orp. eggs on the 12th and I'm really hopeful that I will get something out of them.

don't feel bad. I just candled and out of 15 turkey eggs I only have 2 with visible veins, the others all look clear but I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt and leaving them in for a while longer.

Oh Wisher.....................................

Look what my two egg test hatch produced...........

And I really think (IMO) it is difficult to find a breed of chick with more striking markings.

(They're silver campines)

I literally just squealed, and I'm not a squealer! I can't believe my dreams are starting to look like they may become reality. Now Deb is getting fertile eggs and darnit my bator is slap full. You can bet I'm in a hurry for this hatch to be done so I can try some of those eggs, Deb! I bought my SOP and have started colllecting articles on history and pics of old fashioned types. That is my goal, to take them back to what they were in the late 1800s.

I bought three Silvers Campines this weekend at the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival Poultry Show. An unrelated pair and a lone, distantly related cockeral. My plan is to start my own line of SC while learning by doing. I am going to raise and cull and study (SOP) and show. I am excited!

Speaking of excitement, after leaving the show with my new birds, we stopped at a service station just before getting on the interstate. I wanted to make sure they had some water before the three hour drive home. I filled the waterer and as I opened the top door to put it in, the hen flew straight up and out!

We managed to catch her and entertain all the customers at the store at the same time. Two of them are now safely home, but still in the tempory cage because it is raining this morning. I will get pics when the sun returns.

I had to throw out 4 pekin eggs today, so I'm with you on the duck egg count. Down to one. I have a few of my own to set tonight. I've been lazy and so have the hens.

Oh my, my heart sank just reading about the escape. Glad you caught her!

Checked my Cinco de Mayo Turkey eggs (black Spanish), looks like most are developing nicely. :)

Just had my first turkeys hatch today, looks like 2 of 2 blue slates and 1 of 2 royal palms.

Here they are along with the first tutor out. The rest are due to hatch tomorrow (tutors).

Adorable little peanuts.

I set my wellie eggs (16) at noon. It is try #3 for me with the least amount of eggs. I am really hoping I get a couple good girls out of these..
