**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Turned off the bator today. Nothing happening anymore. Besides, it is making the room so incredibly balmy, I can barely stand it. Too hot here to incubate during summer. Besides, I need to downsize badly! Waaayyyy too many mouths to feed.

She also asked about what type of feed to use. Turkeys and chickens can eat medicated but Ducks should not. Chiques chicks uses game bird starter for all of them.

I have said that before. It never stays off for long however.....

Raz, it's too bad I am not closer. I have a rescued Peking that I am not sure I can keep. My rule is no special needs birds and even though her walk is much improved from when I brought her home she still seems to have some issues. She is just super sweet and snuggly though.

The weather here is supposed to warm up just a bit this weekend, so I am hoping that I can finish cleaning out and repairing the shed to house them as well as putting up their fence. I think it should be sufficient and has a ground level door so she won't need to use a ramp to get in and out. I think this will be best. Originally I was planning to keep them in the overflow section of the chicken coop that I open up for cold winter days when it is too cold for the chickens outside... I like that idea because there is a low spot nearby that I could work into a natural looking pond, but that side of the coop has quite a big step to get outside and I have not been able to get her to use a ramp yet. I have been carrying her in and out.
Get her into water as often as possible that's deep enough to make her float. Swimming will help strengthen her legs.

Normal for ducklings to make a smallish, chicken-sized pip, then enlarge it to a huge pip, or am I seeing bad zipping?
Ducks tend to pip bigger than chicks because of rounded bills rather than pointed beaks.

I had 4 rouens & 1 little grey call hatch today. The call is half as big as the rouens but otherwise looks just like them with a tinier bill. 2 rouens quit on me & there are 2 left that i have peeled a lot of shell away on in an effort to try to help them pip around HUGE wonky air cells. I'm watching vein & yolk absorption so I can help them get their bills out when the time comes. 1 of the ones I lost had pipped internally on the back side of a wonky cell & I didn't find it in time to rescue it. The call needed help due to the tiny bill & all rouens had to have help due to wonky air cells & an air cell on the wrong end of 1. So far all 5 babies that are out are doing well. Just waiting on these last 2. Next batch of babies is due Sunday & includes pekins, silkies, cochin mixes, oegb & bantam orps. Then Tuesday I have runners & more calls due.

I stuffed anconas, guineas, ee bantams, pekins, scovies, runners, oegb, cochin mixes & silkies in the bator this week & already had more rouens & geese in there. I now have eggs stacked in 2 of my 3 bators & eggs hatching in the 3rd with more eggs on the way.

I forgot to mention I pulled one clear egg and a few have really wonky aircells, but set 8 out of 9. Guess we'll see. I saw chick, veining, but no movement in any of them, but I rarely do, so here's to hoping! I have tutors in another hatcher for them. If nothing hatches from those I have 3 in a brooder a few days old, so now...........................come on little gobblers!!!
