**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

I went to the Post Office this morning to pick-up a couple of boxes of eggs I was expecting and was asked if I wanted the other parcel they had for me.

What could that be? I wondered.........

It was the Brinsea Spot Check that CayuseRanch had gifted me for the "Clothe Arielle's Avatar Contest"!! What perfect timing!! The eggs I was picking-up are a prize from the WYGS (happen to be the right number swapper that week) from corancher. A dozen (she send an extra so 13) eggs from Lemon Cuckoo, Lav and Crele Orps, Cream Crested Legbars and Rhodebars! The other box of eggs are some Norwegian Jaerhorns for a friend of mine. I hatched two (well, actually it was my Icelandic hen that hatched them) earlier this month and Amyable (who I got the eggs from) said they were both pullets!! These are from cjwaldon. Hoping to get a few more to make a start for her flock (she lost her flock of 14, including some Icelandics from my flock, a Golden Campine pullet I hatched for the Easter Hatchalong last year from debs_flock and a Blue Isbar rooster that I hatched from The Sheriff, to a mink that got into her coop by digging under it. She is of Norwegian descent and mentioned she'd like to have some NJs so, hopefully, they will do well. It will be hard waiting three weeks to see what happens with them.....I've had some terrible hatches from shipped eggs.

P.S. Arielle, I smile every time I see your avatar. Thank you for using it!
And, thank you CayuseRanch for hosting the contest and for the wonderful prize. It will soon be put to good use!
I smile too-- the blue eggs cheer me up every time I look at them! Glad you enjoy the avatar too!

Well I sent my bcm to UC Davis on Wed. The two birds in qt with her are improving so hopefully they can go home soon. I'm building another brooder for my babies so I can get them out of the house but it is slow going cuz I'm having a lot of pain lately. They haven't called me yet to schedule my next epidural so I need to call the Dr to find out why not.

Yesterday one of my gl Brahma babies was dead in the baby brooder. The only thing different was I stopped giving vitamin water. That shouldn't matter any. Eventually they will be drinking reg water anyway (or acv water). Also, my last Flarry Eye chick was very weak yesterday. We were rushing to get to an appt so all I could do was dip her in vitamin water for a few drinks & isolate her so the other chicks didn't trample her. She was dead when we got home. These babies are not sick & I always take care of the healthy birds first. Then I make sure to wash up well after dealing with the qt birds. Why do babies just die like that for no reason? Its so frustrating.

For those who remember me dealing with my sick cat, the last test we did at the vet showed no fungal infection leaving cancer high on the list (she had a large growth on her nose and a fleshy mass coming out one nostril). The vet showed me a pic of a fungal infected cat that looked identical to my cat. It was caused by pigeons but my cat never goes outside. Anyway, since it was not fungal, bacterial, or viral, tumor was high on the diagnostic. It is not in an operable place being on both sides of the nose. I began giving her Tumeric after reading about its effects on tumors. That was 3 weeks ago. Today, there is hardly any swelling at all. Nothing coming out of her nose. She is almost back to normal (visually) & you can tell by her antics she is back to being happy & healthy. I'm going to continue the Tumeric probably for at least a month after all the swelling is gone just to be sure. I can't begin to tell you how much stress is relieved by her recovery!

Congrats Sally, we do about 100 chickens a year and fill our freezers. Nobody looks forward to the day, but we soon forget when we sit down to enjoy a wonderful meal.

So glad to hear she's doing better Thai! Sometimes you just have to take the natural route when nothing else will work.

Yeah, the crazy thing about that is I already spent several hundred dollars on vet treatments for her & the "cure" is coming from a $3 spice!
Now just hafta figure out how to deal with my disability issue. GRRRRR!

Thai-- so happy you found an answer to your beloveds condition. Tumeric as a medical treatment has not been learned in this country. So many herbal treatments that need studying to bring them into more prominent use. HOw much tumeric are you giving and how do you get the creature to eat it??

I would think Tumeric would be good on tuna (catfood.)
And what cat won't eat tuna? lol

I met a woman just before Christmas who made an awesomly tastey casserol using tumeric,so I stock it now. ANd NOW I will make tumeric a more prominant ingredient in my menus.

Basically it is sauted onions an peppers( red and green) in butter, add tumeric. warm up pre-cooked frozen shrimip; boil a cellophane ( bean) type noodle and mix together. Add salt to taste. I make different versions of it. Beans also have anti cancer properties. Not sure about English peas yet, but that might also go nicely with the shrimp. This is the only human recipe I know with tumeric.
