Second best thing!

For me, the very best thing about keeping chickens is having a broody hen

. Warms my heart and I'm all excited about setting those eggs under her and seeing who comes out, watching her care for them, etc.

The second best thing happened today---when that broody momma starts laying again

! Especially when she is your only Marans and you've been missing those darker eggs.

Plus, it means she could go broody again....it's not too late for another clutch

I've got 8 eggs marked as bait to see if my nervous Nellie bantam cochin has settled down enough to brood a clutch for me this year. Eggs in the incubator and chicks in the brooder, and confirmed with the Grange they're getting fall chicks on 9/11.
