Hello,
Last week we noticed a long dark line on our buff’s beak. I though it was just food or dirt. A few days ago we tried washing it off with warm water on a qtip but she wouldn’t let us rub it or examine it well. Today I checked it and it definitely is a hole it almost looks decayed.
She had been in the house for a few wks while recovering from a hawk attack. I think she’s eating and drinking. Now that she is back with her flock she’s happier but more reserved than before the attack.
What could cause this? Do I need to do something about it? Will the others get it?

First year chicken tender and we’ve been through the wringer with problems.
Thank you for your help!

As long as she is able to drink water well, then all will be OK. If it was my hen, and water was leaking out when drinking excessively, I would try to stop beak leak with some nail polish.
That is one reason when trimming roosters beaks,,, (when they fight aggressively) is to only trim the top. Trimming the bottom, and chicken cant drink water.
You did state that your chicken is back with flock, and eating/drinking well.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Thank you! It’s been one problem after the other with these chickens.
