Hi there!

I need a really good idea for a bomb-proof shelter for turkeys, something that keeps OUT predators. We are somewhat handy, but not much. I lost one of my dear turkey hens the other day to a badger attack. But there was not much we could do as she decided to go around the side of the property in some hidden bushes and lay her eggs. The poor thing was dragged out of her nest by this awful badger. It wasn't pretty. :( So we now have 4 turkeys left. They usually sleep in the coop at night with the chickens (they all get along just fine) but one of our chicken hens just hatched some chicks....they will be big soon so we'll have to evict the turkeys soon. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Go get yourself 6 extra large pallets from home depot or anywhere they have to many pallets to deal with. Make one big box out of all 6 of them. 4 pallets for the sides, one pallet needs to be hinged like a door. And 2 pallets for the top and bottom. Then proceed to wrap the entire box in chicken wire and or a heavier duty wire mesh. Staple it all down and put good latches on the doors. Badgers won't have a chance. Elevate the box if the Badgers is circling it at night keeping them awake.

Yep! Not the prettiest set up. But it will probably cost no more than 15 bucks for the wire and screws needed. Can always dress the outside with plywood later to make it look better.
