I noticed this morning one of my Sultan roosters, about a year old, stretching his neck, almost like a yawn several times, then he shook his head. Otherwise he seems normal- he's active and not fluffed, but I try to keep my eye out for any possible behaviors that are out of the norm in any of them.

I've seen a couple of others "yawn" also, but they're eating and pecking as always.

Is this behavior ok or the pre-courser to a problem? I looked in my Chicken Health Handbook, and didn't seem to see any diagnosis with these symptoms, but I don't want any problem that spreads.

Thanks!

Have you wormed them? Open his mouth and see if anything is in there.

When you say shaking, is it like a dog that is wet or is it more of a twitch/shiver?

Well, it was a shake -more like a dog just shaking something off. Checked him this afternoon- seems fine. Maybe it's nothing.

By the way, where in Southern VA are you? I'd like to reduce my flock somewhat- I have about 20 started chicks right now that I want to be sure have a good home and someone to love them. ALso, some really sweet 6 mo. old ameracauna pullets and roos.

If you'd like to get together, you'll have more chickens! and I'll know they're with someone who'll love them. I'm in Spotsy county near Orange. If you want pics, email me your address and I'll send some.

I think I'll worm everyone just to be on the safe side.

Thanks!
