Seeking advice on coop/run location

Hi all,

We've identified a possible location for coop/run in our garden and are hoping the forum could give feedback or additional issues we should consider. Basics of the location are:

• At base of a short, slight incline (one side of a larger valley) - water does not collect there so it's not marshy or anything - but is wetter than an area higher up.
• At edge of a treeline (trees are in the base of the valley), mostly deciduous trees.
• Gets about 4-5 hours direct sunshine during summer - more during winter.
• Wind/airflow comes up the valley and so the coop/run would get fresh air flowing through.

If there's anything obvious we're missing please let me know! We've thought about the noise management, and this location is still about 300ft away from nearest adjacent house (and through the trees in the base of the valley).

Sounds like you've got a good start on assessing your site, Kudos!

No standing water is good, but the wetness affect might depend on how you plan to build your coop and run.
Is it only really wet there after a good hard rain, or all the time?

Consider convenience to your house. You'll have to go out there daily in even the worst weather so you don't want to make it hard on yourself.

@aart - it is only wet (not puddles or anything) after a heavy rain - I'm thinking on the coop design that it is raised up on posts (the treated pine 4x4) and then the base of the closed in run in treated pine etc. On climate we get usual upstate NY (south of Adirondacks) weather, pretty hot and humid during height of summer and then winters are sunny and don't get below minus 20F really.

@3KillerBs - understood - the location is right near our compost bins, and we're there on an almost daily basis too.
