I have 12 7 week old chicks (2 are silkies). I want to know if they'll be ok if I remove ALL heat from their garage transition coop. It reaches the low 30s overnight.
Week 1-4 Brooded indoors raising their heat plate weekly to reduce temps.
Week 4-5 Relocated to the garage and used an oscillating heater about 3-4 feet from the brooder (its small and doesn't heat the large garage, just takes some of the chill out of the air) and put my cozy coop radiant heater inside the transition coop. Temps ranged 30-55 overnight.
Week 6 removed the oscillating heater and the only heat was from the cozy coop radiant heat plate.
Now at week 7, I plan to remove the last source of heat, the cozy coop radiant heater for a week, then transition them to their outside forever coop next week at week 8.
This is my first set of chicks so I'm still learning.
Will they be ok in the garage with the low 30s temperature and no heat or should I wait another week or two?
