Seemingly healthy hen suddendy died.

I seen my Mabel girl this afternoon laying an egg. I went out to the coop this dusk to check on my flock n she was in the same spot dead. Any tips on what to look for? I don't see any marks on her body or mites or lice. She was eating and acting pretty normal, it's just getting hot here so she was panting, but that's the only diff in her behavior.

I had a hen in a similar situation with your hen and she had an egg brake inside of her. She died in less than 4 hours. If you have a fellow chicken person willing to open up your hen, you can get a confirmation of that. Otherwise I am unsure of what it could be.

Hard to know what happened unless there's a further investigation. If you still have the body, refrigerate it and send it to your state lab. OR if you feel like you can, take a look inside at the internals. Take photos, we'll try to help you with what you see.

Any news here? Just had. A similar occurrence. Going to try to get that necropsy done but I have terrible anxiety that’s helped with knowledge and not knowing until I get the results is gonna make me lose sleep lol

I never got sent her to the lab because we had to catch a flight n time was against us. I de-wormed my flock and did an ivermectin round. No one else died or got sick. I still don't know what happened, but I suspect heart failure.
