I have some olive egger chickens that I have raised from chicks. I purchased them from a supply store and they are a cross of Welsummer and Cream Legbar. We decided that we wanted some more so we let them hatch some eggs. From what I’ve read, the cream Legbar is an auto sexing breed, and some say that the Welsummer is also. So I figured there would be traits of both that I could look for to determine the sex. There were a couple chicks that were easily identified as roosters according to the cream Legbar half, they looked exactly like the cream Legbar chick pictures for a rooster. The Welsummer Seems a bit more difficult to determine. The strange part of it though, is some of the chicks that hatched look nothing like either of the breeds. Both aforementioned breeds have lots of dark coloration, and 3 of them came out with white stripes where there should be dark brown or black stripes...kinda like looking at a photo negative. Is this some gene that is coming out from a Welsummer or Legbar ancestor? I would’ve thought that they would have come out looking like the parents.

3. Chick that I assume is a rooster(cream Legbar coloration)
4. This is what the olive eggers are supposed to look like?
5. Mystery chick...
