Seems Really Difficult and Expensive

Please understand-I'm not laughing AT you, I'm laughing WITH you.

...Oh, I'm laughing at you!!!

And myself. I have 6- YES, 6, incubators. I always have at least 3 going. I'm nuts. I can't help but buy eggs. It's absolutely addictive.

ROFL you made me laugh...your story read so much like mine, lol, lol....good luck! You made me smile : )

Also, just visited the Brinsea website and must say you got a great deal on a great looking incubator! I'm so jealous... : ) Mine is a little giant and while it holds 60 at a time, I have no auto turner or self-adjusting thermostat. I have to open it to turn, adjust the temp manually, and add water by opening...it works well though but I may save for a while to get one like yours...it's just too cool.

I have turkeys hatching right now in my "new to me" turn x yes only 18 eggs at a time but I already have 3 others......6 shipped and 6 made it so far 3 hatched with another pipped and they are due tomorrow. I hope to at least sell my extras and I really can't wait to start hatching my own I am tired of shipped eggs and I too could never find any close to me of the breeds I wanted unless I paid way more than my hubby would go for....and they still had to go in the mail. Hatching is never dull and I have some really nice birds from this that you can never get from a catalog and my best eggs have come from wonderful people from this site just go for it

Yeah, I think the price of the incubators is what making me stop. Right now, money is a bit tight because writing isn't paying a lot. So, I'm looking at low end sorts of options.

I think I'm going to look at ebay for cheep, er, cheap incubators.

Sigh.

I have the same Styrofoam Hovabator that I bought over 15 years ago at the feed store, it was about $40 dollars then, I think (?). I have since replaced the cheapo thermometer with a stick through the foam digital one ($6.99) and have used the odd piece of duct tape to repair sections. But I use it every year (three batches this year) and clean it out after use. I use Hydrogen Peroxide instead of plain water in the water trays to prevent bacterial blooms. Been working for me. Hatch rates from 3% to 90+% without being able to tell what variable was different.

I use a Genesis 1588 Hova Bator incubator with the 1611 auto turner, and feel it is an excellent low cost, entry level incubator ($155.95 for incubator and turner combo at Cutler Supply online) that does everything but your humidity (use an Exo Terra reptile hygrometer from your local pet store to check your humidity~VERY accurate!) In fact I'm on my 5th incubation of the year, most shipped eggs, and I have averaged a 50% hatch rate, which is considered good for shipped eggs! Good hatch or bad hatch it is SO much fun! I'm totally addicted!!

I am not going to buy an incubator. I am not going to buy an incubator. I am NOT going to buy an incubator.
Buy what you need, not what you want.
Buy what you need, not what you want.
Buy what you need, not what you want.

This mantra is getting old!
