Sponsored Post Selecting Breeds for a Rainbow Egg Basket

I have a mixed flock of 15 chickens,Rhody reds, marans, americanas, lite brahma, suffolks, Plymouth rocks and 2 banties. Every loves getting "RAINBOW" eggs. I have one chick that lays PINK eggs with blue speckles. I have never been able to figure out which hen is laying them. Anyone got any ideas........WILLYWORLD
Hi willyworld.

Welcome to BYC.....

.... Here is an egg that one of my hatchery Barred Plymouth Rocks laid about a year and 1/2 ago
It was very light tan with blue spots -- she went back to normal shortly thereafter. I think that it is a malfunction of the egg-coating process....not something that the breed has but a thing that one individual chicken has. Good luck solving the mystery.

The method I've seen posted is to put food coloring in their vent. You can skip the ones that you KNOW the color of their egg.

I don't know if some colors are better than other but I would think the red/blue/green would be the best bet.

I have not tried this.
