Hey all.
Wondering...
I have a non barred rooster and 3 barred hens. Creating black sex link chicks which would be in high demand in my area.
However, I also have 1 black hen. She is a great broody though, so I don't want to get rid of her.
Any way I can keep the rooster off of her to get only sex linked eggs? Or, can I identify her by a darker, speckled egg compared to my other hens' eggs (I haven't seen her laying the darker egg I only suspect that it's hers)?

I wpuld make sure thst is her egg before incubating. Just because she is a different breed dosen't necessarily mean she will lay a different colored egg.

They are mixed breeds. But, I have 3 barred hens and a non barred rooster making black sex links- I only want to hatch out those eggs.

You could separate her until you get your eggs for the day? Then you could find out what egg she lays if it is drastically different than the Barred eggs.

Place the black in a pen by herself until she lays to identify which egg she is laying then return her to the flock.
Alright. Thank you!
