Sellers Who Use Paypal

PayPal is not getting anymore of my money. I agree that if they are allowing a person to use their system like this they are guilty as well.

I just got a phone call from a PayPal supervisor and she said i will not be getting my money back and that if i did not like their decision i would have to take the guy to court. Basically she said the guy that came and got the birds was not the guy that owned the card the money came from. She said either he used someones card or stole someones card. She said it was probably set up and they he used someones card he knew and they knew they could get the money back.

This is so wrong on all accounts. So your out of money and birds. How is this fair to the seller. I think PayPal should be verified checking accounts only no credit or debit cards, just bank accounts.

I would definately contact the police, because now it is theft. He must not live to far if he came to pick the birds up right?

Yes now i am out the birds and the money. Its not my job to make sure the guy used his card, that's on PayPal. If they were going to take the money from anyone it should be this guy.

This guy in not on BYC, he bought cage birds (parrots) from me and i doubt he knows anything about BYC. As far as the key, i think i will take some pics and when i go to file a police report i give it to them as evidence or see what they say to do with it.

I think that is what i will do.

First, I know the OP is thoroughly disgusted with PayPal right now, but thousands of people use it quite successfully every day. Even the OP stated that she'd done thousands of dollars of business prior to this without incident. There is no reason to feel using PayPal isn't an option. You need to know the terms and conditions of whatever you use.

Ebay, however, has become burdensome. It is difficult to earn any real money on a few, small, low-priced items. I watch for times when they run FREE auctions (which they seem to do regularly now). Also, maybe you can look into AMAZON? I have a friend who has had decent success selling used books through their used book sale site. (I don't have any personal experience with it.) http://www.amazon.com/gp/seller/sell-your-stuff.html

I am disgusted with PayPal right now. I understand its my fault i did not know i was not being backed by them, that's on me, but what i dont understand is why they are taking it out on me when the buyer used someone else card. That's not my job to figure out what card he is using. I have sent and received thousands of dollars through PayPal. They get like 3.5% of everything that goes through them. Over the years they have made a lot of money off of me, which i have no problem with because i thought if anything like this ever came up they would help me, If was only accepting money orders or cash for all the transactions i have done through PayPal i would have saved more than this $225 i lost. I am not going to use PayPal any longer, once the 7 days is up i will close my account, i will not let a company make money off of me or anyone else that i send money to if they are going to do stuff like this.

Oh and PS. I'm a guy. LOL

When it comes to stolen cards, no matter who you go threw the seller is probably going to be the one eating the loss. I think the laws are on the cardholders side now a days. Use to be where the card holder fronted the loss but that has changed.

One of google checkout's policies:

"For service orders or personal deliveries, ask buyers to print out and sign a copy of the Checkout receipt stating that your services have been completed to their satisfaction."

I use them both as a buyer and seller, and I love them! Easy to use, low rates, everything!

I just wanted to give you all an update on this. After 10 days I finally got a hold of this guy, he said he did not know paypal was reviewing the payment. He said he lost his wallet and his bank filed the unauthorized payment. He contacted paypal and canceled the claim. Paypal returned the money to my account a little while ago.

Thanks everyone who responded to this thread.

Yea i defiantly did not expect him to say anything like that. I dont know if he is telling the truth or not, but i dont care, as long as he made it right i am happy.

Whew! Glad that got resolved. Like you said, his "excuse" sounded fishy. Did you get law enforcement involved before he told you about his lost wallet?

Still, I wouldn't do any business with this guy unless he pays you cash upfront in person.
