Glad to find this forum, I need some answers.

I've been thinking about raising some quail and I need to find out about rules and regs about selling the live birds and eggs.
I am retired now and looking for a new hobby that may help pay for itself.
is there anyone out there that can answer this for me.

Thanks

The easiest way to get accurate info on what species require permits in your area is to call the state fish and game division.

If it is coturnix quail you are thinking of they are only regulated in a few areas and most often don't require any sort of permit. In California I sell live chicks, adults, and eggs with no restrictions (obviously there are those silly things I think are called taxes but I've never made enough at the birds to bother)

Here are a couple papers on raising quail for your brain to chew on.

Most people buying quail for backyard use will want coturnix for their meat and egg production (lay eggs by 2 months also ready to eat at 2 months)

For hunting and dog training people like bobwhites but these quail (especially raised for this purpose) require a lot of work and are a pretty difficult quail to raise (not impossible though) for a beginner.
