selling eggs

Saving dogs you have some good ideas. As I work from home- no co workers, no neighbors and I would like some income from them. Fresh eggs don't peel when hard boiled, I love deviled eggs. I hard boiled three last night with that in mind, couldn't get them peeled in one piece so I made egg salad. Think I'll try the free range organic egg sign with phone number.

Sure they do! I learned how here on BYC. I would link you to the thread but its so easy I'll just tell you.

I've used eggs just laid but day old work better especially if they sit on the counter.

But use room temperature eggs. Boil a big pot of water and bring to a full boil. Then put in your eggs. I use a metal colander but the person who described it to me said they used a slotted spoon. Plunge those babies right into the boiling water. Cook for the desired amount of time (I live at high altitude so go 1/2 hour, but the recipe said 20 minutes). Then have a sink of very cold water with ice cubes in it to plunge the hot eggs into when you scoop them from the water. Let them chill and you will be surprised how easy they peel. Keep that water cold, if you do a big batch you might need to make the water colder after a few minutes by adding more cold water.

Every now and then I get one that won't peel, but it is when I have an extra huge egg and it doesn't get cooked well enough. Now I just don't hard boil the huge ones.

We found we used a lot more eggs when we could hard boil them.

Maybe try letting them sit out on the sink for a few days before hard boiling. I'd try that next. And make sure that water is really boiling hard and the ice water is really really cold. It worked great for me the first time but maybe you need to play around with it, perhaps cook them longer?

I sell at our local crafts/farmers market from April thur Dec and they go instatnly (20-30 dz a week last year) but had to get creative in the off season, first I mentioned that I had them for sale at various places that I frequently shop etc - and found a some regulars who pay me once a month and I drop off a dozen once a week - I also made a list of my regulars from the market and send out a group e-mail to them when I have a batch, harded to meet with them now, but many still catch me every other week and buy some extras, also mention to friends/relatives that maybe work outside of home, my sister found that she has several co-workers and neighbors who want them so she usually buys 4-6 dz a week to sell to them, so check anywhere you go. also check out flea markets, local food co-ops, and other options as mentioned above, today I gave away 10 dozen to the guys who work a local organic bakery that gives away their day-old stuff (I have been getting a LOT of free chicken food from them so I wanted to repay the favor - they were thrilled and I came home with a car FULL of whole grain breads for me, my mom, some friends, and my chickens) so just get creative and you'll find ways to use them. PS as I was leaving the grocery store there was an out-of-work guy asking for food donations for his familys dinner... I gave him a dozen eggs and a loaf for the free bread (he was thrilled since all he'd gotten til then was some Ramen) - I don't like to give cash to folks asking for help because I don't want to support bad habits (smoking/drink/drugs) but will donate eggs, bread, and sometimes buy jars of stuff like peanut butter to hand out to them.

My mom and mom-in-law kept me on my toes so I doubled my flock! Now my sister has moved out so I'll share with her too.
I give them to my neighbors on both sides, you know in return for them liking my roosters

They all get theirs for free, obviously.

We didn't sell eggs last year because the relatives/neighbors kept us from drowning in eggs, but with double production I expect that we may start selling some this year! Should be fun and DH might like the chickens better (he is fine with the hens, but not my RIR rooster who protects them)

Lots of people meet buyers at work. We gave a doz to DH's boss last Christmas.
Try all the relatives of course, and the people that they know too.
