Selling excess meat birds.

Do any of you sell birds?

Do you sell them cleaned?

How do you package them?

What do you charge?

I have read the Minnesota regulations so I know I can do it legally if I follow the rules, I am just wonder if anyone really does and what the pitfalls are.

Hi - yes I do I sell them cleaned and packaged. I bought bags that shrink wrap in almost-boiling water in about 10 seconds (so it doesn't cook the chicken at all). I sell them to friends and family, and charge $1.00 more per pound than it costs me. About $4.00/lb for organic chicken. That lowers the cost of the ones for my family by including my labor into the deal.

We were thinking $3 a pound for those we pluck, and $2.75 if we can skin them. We have a plucker but it is still a lot of extra work.

I cannot sell mine as organic because I buy my food from a feed mill. Even though I use medicated feeds, medication or pesticides here.

My birds are my insecticide.

I think that's a really fair price for pastured all natural chicken And don't supermarkets charge more for skinless, boneless chicken? What a racket, huh?
