Selling hatching eggs-profitability.

I sell Silkie hatching eggs when I have extra available. I often get requests for these. I offer no guarantee on hatchability only on fertility. I make sure that the customer is quite clear that there are too many factors involved to guarantee that any hatch. So far I haven’t had any complaints.
As far as making a profit off of this, I find this doubtful. When you calculate all the costs involved in keeping chickens, selling chicks and/or eggs just helps pay some of the bills.
Good luck.😊

Do you know if the eggs at least cover a good amount if the food they go through?

I don’t keep track to be honest, I give all sales to my teenage daughter as incentive to care for the birds when I am out of town for work, which is often these days.😊
I guess it will depend on how many chickens you have, what kind of feed they’re eating, how much they eat, this varies from breed to breed, how many eggs are you realistically selling and so on and so on. My Silkies are often broody, so how many eggs I actually get out of them can vary.
I look at chicken keeping as a hobby and if I can sell a few chicks and eggs here and there, then that’s just a plus.
