So, one of my good friends told me she wanted us to get some extra chicks in our order and raise them for her. Then she wanted to have them when they were laying age. We didn't expect any payment. Well, we gave them to her last week when they were 22 weeks old. Then she asked how much I wanted for them. I wasn't ready for this so I told her I would get her a number sometime. I need some help finding a good price though. For six hens: The total is 64.32, or 10.72 a hen. Is that too much? They are going to a really good friend and I don't want to overprice them, but I can't afford to lose $64.32.

I'd just charge her what you would charge anyone else or a bit less. Laying hens go for 8-15 a piece around here. Though this particular situation is one of the reasons I don't sell to friends or family. While you want to be fair the birds still weren't free and neither was feed or water. If I was in your particular situation I probably would have just asked 50 for the 6 so I would feel that I gave them a deal but wasn't completely out of pocket.

Yes that defiantly is a useful peace of mind. Hopefully it'll all work out in everyone's best interest

i would tell her it cost me this much to raise them and tell her that you would like to atleast recover the money spent.

Ok. It's so hard to figure out the feed part because I am just figuring that 6 is about 1/10 of our flock, but they also eat less because they are smaller. I'm trying not to get too technical (each chicken eats x grams per day, but they eat x% less, and they eat a rate of x% more everyday as they grow=MIND EXPLOSION) but still get a fair number.

I'll tell her $50, that seems fair.
