Finally got a count-21, + 5= 26. I don't have that much room yet, and I really want a little more diversity than all greys, so will have to either locate keets or eggs. If eggs, will def wait bc both incubators had so many issues this year with spiking and dropping temp that the last 3 eggs failed. Brinsea bottomed out temp and refused to heat back up at all, so in the trash they go. Anyone willing to ship some colorful keets?
I know standard is sell them at birth, but do ppl ever want older ones that have been sexed? Curious, since they always wantvto know the sex. And how do you advertise?
For all the fussing and mothering I did, I must say Rosie is one heck of a Momma. They are so strong that they could almost get out of kiddie pool I put them in this a.m., and she's lost none since the 1st day.
My gran came running around side of coop yesterday and startling her; first time I've seen that normal Mamma guinea behavior you all refer to. She threw her wings up and hissed, took one step forward, looked up at me and then settled back down. Lol. Taught the gran a lesson about running up on birds, too!

I sell mine on Craigslist, and yes! People will definitely buy older keets!

This year, mine didn't even last long enough to advertise them. People are always wanting older guineas that are sexed. My keets were all gone within the first 3 days to people that had contacted me before they were hatched.

I agree. I almost prefer to buy older sexed guineas because they’re easier to integrate I’ve found.

The boys took to the 5 older ones easily, but Mama's been a pill since she and her keets moved back in. In addition to shelf we had up for Nuggy when he was the outcast, I've had to add a few more. Thankfully those 5 have become their own flock.

I’ve sold both day olds and ones up to 5wks old. I’ve had specific requests for older keets. And a third of mine were spoken for before eggs were even laid. I sell mine on Craigslist and word of mouth.

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with incubators this year🙁
Re incubators - was scrolling back through posts from last year. I had forgotten that the Brinsea spiked temps last yr (brand new). Even that is doable bc I'm home to catch it,. But when it bottomed out, there's no coming back from that. I was under the impression they were the best ones. The other was a cheap model. It's thermostat was in Celsius and never accurate but I could do the conversions to overcome that. I took a chance & overlooked c/o of top not staying seated after awhile- which were accurate, & then it couldn't maintain temp. Anyway, I have months to ponder my next move. Right now I'm concentrating on not stepping on fuzzy little mice-like things with wings that scurry under my feet. 😅

I’m having incubator issues too! I have a digital circulated fan Hovobator with a turner. I’ve had two lousy hatches this year but didn’t really understand why. Plus, I just bought two dozen very expensive guinea eggs - should be pastel, Violet, and royal purple pinto. They had been in this incubator for 7 days when I realized that the automatic turner has an issue. I think that the motor is dying, so it barely turns the eggs. It was moving just enough to fool me into thinking it’s working! I’ve ordered another turner, but I’ve been afraid to take the broken one out and just manually turn while I’m waiting for it, because the temp is adjusted for the turner being present… So I’m trying to turn the eggs three times a day but in a more or less upright position so tilting it to its side. Blah!

The cheaper one - comes under various names, is supposed to be automatic turner as well but slats never stayed in place. I had got it just because I was pulling in those last eggs and was thinking of lockdown.
Thinking about the Nurture Right- I suppose it doesn't matter if I'm not doing 20+ eggs at a time. Logically speaking, I was never planning on getting into selling until Mama proved herself so successful at nurturing.😆 Himself always encourages me to make a profit off of my hobbies- he just doesn't get that then it wldnt be a hobby. Lol.
Honestly, I like my small hatches. I'm working w/the 5 same as ever. Other than sitting next to coop and tossing in bits of celery, those 21 are on her. Lol. Honestly I just don't want to get attached cuz Himself might kill me.😵 lol
