So my rooster has decided to pick on my favorite hen and I think it’s bc she isn’t part of the cliche he has going on with the rest of the hens. Well recently two of her friends have either died or went missing. It started a little before but now she doesn’t have any friends. Killing isn’t an option for either bc I just can’t do it. The rooster is only aggressive with her. So is the best option to build a small little coop and get her a couple friends? I’m thinking that I’m going to have to do that.

It’s hard when one is picked on.Do the hens pick on her at all? I had some young cockerels and was trying to pick the best one to keep for breeding. Unfortunately, the one I chose, scalped my shy skittish polish hen who did not like to be bred. He nearly killed her. He was dispatched that day.

I would separate the rooster for now in his own pen, and see how it goes. If the hen starts getting bullied, you may need to make other changes. It could be that if he is young, he may calm down when he gets more mature. Hopefully, this will work out eventually, but I will not tolerate a rough rooster. Good luck.

He’s not young at all. He will be 2 in April. The hens don’t pick on her but they aren’t the best buddies. I think I’ll just build another coop and get her some friends hopefully. I have to force her to go in the coop.

She also doesn’t like to be mated at all. She runs from him any time she sees him. I feel like it’s stressing her out so my best bet is to separate her from everyone else.

I really like having a rooster, but if I like this hen, I would separate him. If you do separate her, be sure that he doesn’t pick on another hen. Roosters are entertaining, and the hens love them, but they are not always worth it if one picks on others. I have raised quite a few docile roosters, and don’t tolerate a bully, male or female.

Ofc if he starts picking on the others I will but so far it’s just her. She was separated for a week and he wasn’t picking on any of the other ones so hopefully not.
