I am raising six chicks of mixed breeds. The original six included two bantam chicks, but one passed away the first night. The other fix chicks are considerably bigger, and the poor little bantam thinks they're its mum. The often trample her and I think it's wearing on her. Would she be better off separated, or worse because of the isolation?

I wouldn't separate the smaller chick, however, it does need a safe place to get away from being stepped on. One of those half cinderblocks is perfect. It can climb in the hole and be safe from the bigger chickens. I always have some around when I introduce chicks to the flock. Do you need a photo?

I have four bantams and one regular size, one of the bantams is a mille fleur d'uccle and is TINY. She hasn't had any issues with being around the other chicks. I wouldn't separate (unless they were aggressive) as much as just make sure your brooder has enough space.

A picture would be really helpful!
Here's photos. I think they are about 8 inches or so.
The little chicks can go inside and hide safely. They also have cement blocks with two holes, I'm sure you have seen them. ;)
