Do you guys have separate pens/fenced areas set up for each different breed of duck to keep the breed more pure when you are hatching eggs?
Do you keep the males separated from the females the rest of the time in a batchelor pad when fertilized eggs aren't wanted?

My 30 ducks free range together unless I have need/desire for purebreds. Then I pen up my best drake and best hens together for a few weeks to get purebreds. The only other time I lock them up is when there's a predator giving my grief....

x2. Mine free range all together unless there's a creature on the prowl looking for the duck buffet. When I'm looking for a true breeding I pen up my breeding drakes with their hens (a minumum of 2 girls with each drake) - usually not more than a few weeks at a time.

I know that is a weak question, but if an egg is fertilized, how long will it store in the fridge? I will be using the eggs for eating unless I want to get some pure breed ducklings. Does that make sense?
Thanks SparkyCrows and FarmGirl for the responses.
