Hi, I have an 8-year-old gal, Mother Clucker, RI Red, who came down sick (lethargic, staying in the coop, diarrhea). After an inconclusive trip to the vet, she has been on Clavamox and a pain-killer for a week. The fecal came back normal and the ultrasound didn't show anything other than some fluid in her belly. I called to ask whether I can let her back in with the flock but they suggested waiting 60 days before letting her out of the hen-firmary. I can't afford more tests/treatment, but she is the last from my original flock and I adore her. She is eating and drinking a bit and I've been giving her B vitamins, probiotics, etc. If she's not going to make it, I don't want her last days to be alone on the other side of a fence away from her other girls. She wants to be with them. Why would the vet suggest 60 days? She isn't laying eggs anymore, by the way. Thank you, Sharon
