separating young chicks

I have six two-week-old chicks in a brooder. I only plan on keeping 3 of them. My co-worker will be raising the other three. How old should they be before I give them away? I was told they do better in larger groups when they are young.

I think they would be fine to give away at any time. A group of 3 is just fine to raise them in.
