Alright I had posted a couple days ago about treating my runner for bumblefoot. I know it is a lengthy treatment. My question is - is it bad for them to be separated for a long time. Currently her foot is wrapped and she's in the coop all day - always with a friend. The other four are free ranging. I've had her separated for four days so I'm early in the treatment stages.. do I keep her separated the entire time during treatment? Several weeks? She is limping, she does get an Epson salt bath daily but that is the extent of it. She always has food, oyster shells and fresh water all day and is happy eating and resting.

I've found chickens recover better if they are with their group. Of course, there are some injuries that necessitate isolation, but if the patient isn't getting bullied and can keep up with the group (important when free ranging) then I don't isolate. The main problems I've found with isolation isn't that the patient gets forgotton by the group, it's they get depressed and being social eaters, go off their food which has in some cases lead to crop disorders.
