I am sorry if this is in the wrong place to post but I couldn't really think of a place. I read somewhere on here that a rooster should NOT eat egg-layer feed because the chicken will get more calcium in them and that will cause kidney damge. Is htis true, and if so, how would I get the rooster to eat from a different feeder with normal chicken pellets in it?? Should I make him a seperate house?? Thank you. =]

i've always been told it's okay for the rooster to eat the lay mash. Not an expert, but have heard this from several feed stores, so they must know.

Hopefully someone with more experience will come along soon to offer their opinion.

I am currently feeding Purina Start & Grow and plan to switch to their Layena (layer feed) when they are 18 weeks old. The people at Purina say it's fine to feed the roos the Layena; so I imagine any layer feed would be fine.

Okay, thank you!!

All chickens are funny, they eat what they like. Most of the time it is good for them, this is one of them. If you have chickens for the eggs and pets feed them anything and everything, if they are show birds you might have to take a steop back and think about what to give them. Then feed them what you are feeding the rest of your chickens.
