I am at the end of my ropes with Lucy, my black australorp. She has been really mean and bullying towards 2 of the hens, Abby and Sophia. I am trying the seperation therapy. I am gonna let them have no contact for 4 days, then bring them back together to establish the pecking order, and hopefully she'll end up at the bottom so she can't pick on the special needs ones anymore. Hoping this works!!! Has anyone has success with this method?

I personally haven't had to do that, but I've heard that it does help. Good luck putting her in her place!!

I've had to do that before, and it worked....but we had our bullies in a different enclosure for a few weeks....hoping
that it works for you!!!

I have read that separation can work, I hope it does for you. But if it doesn't here is another idea copied and pasted from the Derp thread.

The Lorp has since been fitted with aglamorous set of blue pinless peepers and no longer pulls out Derp's feathers.)

I put a peeper on my Jersey Giant last year. She was pecking the living daylights out of my already fragile BO and I was really afraid she was going to kill her. I will say, it worked. She would be standing right next to the BO and make the sound she would make that says, get out of my space, I'm eating here. But then she'd look up to peck and just stand there like, where'd she go?

It did force her into a big ugly molt as she wasn't able to eat as much as she was used to eating. I removed it about 3 weeks later.

I've also read that you can nip the end of their beaks with a toe nail clippers. Just the tip so they don't bleed and this will prevent her from getting a grip on the feather and while she can still peck, she won't be able to pull out feathers.

But I'm really hoping that your separation plan works. Seems like the easiest.

Do keep us posted.
