Was home, hanging by myself, listening to the radio. I heard our local newsman report it first, with the CBS radio network breaking in. I then turned on the TV news-magazines. At that point, they still thought it was a commuter plane--not for long.
On top of every other emotion, it made for an extremely unhappy 63rd birthday for my mother--really ticked me off when I thought of that one, discrete, aspect of the events. Plus, a family friend, (b-day on the 12th) wasn't sure for some time that her husband, who worked for an airport, and was flying that day, was okay. (He was.)
So much comes back.....
I was installing Kitchen Cabinets in a new home and I always had the habit of signing my name and the date they were installed behind the biggest wall cabinet. The first building was hit minutes later. I remember thinking to myself, it's going to collapse.
